Interns from FES Israel visit the FES office in Palestine
On 18 and 19 November, the FES Palestine interns welcomed the interns of the FES office in Israel. As part of the two-days program. The visitors received in-depth insights into the work of our office as well as an overview on the politics, culture and society of Palestine. A visit to Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem under the guidance of the organizations Shoruq and Ibdaa Cultural Center provided a unique perspective on the current situation in the occupied territories, including the Palestinian refugee camps. Followed by a political tour through Jerusalem’s Old City amplified the participants’ understanding of the daily life and the structural disadvantages faced by Palestinians.
The interns from Israel got acquainted with the work and contents as well as the partner organizations of the FES office in Palestine. During a meeting with the partner organizations PASSIA (Palestinian Academic Society for the Study of International Affairs) and PIJ (Palestine-Israel Jounal), the participants engaged in controversial discussions on Palestinian and Israeli narratives and exchanged perspectives on the Middle East conflict. The exchange constituted an educational experience that contributed to an understanding of the social, economic and political contexts and gave insights into the work of FES in the region.
