Kalimat – The Palestinian Literature Festival

The “Kalimat – Palestinian Literature Festival” took place from 3 to 6 November 2018 and was organized by the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation together with its partner, the Educational Bookshop. For four days workshops with students from Palestinian universities were held in the morning, followed by public events in the evening.

A total of 14 authors from the Palestinian and international literary scene were invited to the Literature Festival. The 8 female and 6 male authors led workshops that dealt with literary, historical, journalistic, and gender topics. In exchange with the authors, young Palestinian students were able to critically reflect and develop creative approaches to dealing with their social and political environment.

The public events in Jerusalem, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Nablus were well received by domestic and international guests. At each event, 5 authors presented their works on different topics, followed by a discussion with the audience. The authors and participants provided inspiring views on political and social issues in Palestine.
